History

Manchester Progressive Education Children´s Community – MPECC is a company founded by two mothers who wanted for their children an alternative, bilingual and more flexible education than what is currently being offered in mainstream schools and nurseries.

With this idea in mind and making use of their expertise in education and in the arts sector they decided to start their own project  in one of South Manchesters popular leafy suburbs, Whalley Range.

The two Directors are Effie Delphinius and Susana Lopez Penedo.

Effie Delphinius, MA, has twenty years experience as an artist, and three years as a community artist and arts consultant. She lived in Spain for ten years where she worked as an artist and learning facilitator. She has an MA in Critical Theory of Arts and has lectured in art theory. She has exhibited her art widely in the UK, Ireland and Spain. In addition she has trained for two years as a psychotherapist in transactional analysis. She is also a writer and has published several short stories and a theatre play.

Susana Lopez Penedo, MA, PhD, is a qualified teacher with expertise in secondary education. She has five years experience as a university lecturer, training early years, primary education and secondary education teachers. She is an academic researcher in Sociology of Education and is currently researching  “ICT use in schools and personalized learning” and has published widely in the field of Sociology.
